OBITUARY

MR ALFRED ROLPH. The death occurred in Masterton last night, after a long illness, of Mr Alfred Rolph, of Colombo Road, at the age of 64 years. The late Mr Rolph was one of the first omnibus drivers in London and later was appointed an instructor. Born at Cambridge, England, he spent the early years of his life in thp Old Country, coming to New Zealand with his wife in 1910. For a period bp resided successively in Wellington. Westport and Palmerston North and took up his residence in Masterton in 1920. For over 20 years he had been in business here as a cycle dealer. He was a member of the Masonic Order and of the Waipoua Lodge of Odd Fellows. The late Mr Rolph, who was of a quiet disposition, is' survived by a widow and one son, to whom the sympathy of many friends will be extended. The funeral will take place on Friday, following a service to be held at St. Matthew’s Church at 2.30 p.m. for the Masterton Cemetery. MRS. E. J. PRYOR. The friends of Mrs, Emily J. Pryor will learn with regret of her death, which took place in Masterton this morning. She was born 70 years ago in Auckland, where, in 1891 she married Mr. James Pryor.- In 1908 Mr. and Mrs. Pryor made their home in Masterton, where her husband was manager of the drapery department of the W.F.C.A. Mrs. Pryor had resided in Masterton ever since. She was widely known and highly esteemed. She was interested in every movement that made for the betterment of the social conditions of the town, and took an active part in its welfare activities. She displayed a great interest in the social activities of Knox Church being a very valuable member. In cases of need and sickness she was always available, and many a sick and elderly person had occasion to thank her for her kindness and attention. Her husband predeceased her 28 years ago. She is survived by one daughter, Mrs F. Anderson, of Wellington, and four sons, Messrs. Harold James and David Clarence, of Martinborough; Eric JSTicol, of Hastings; and Edmond Lister, of Blenheim, and by 13 grandchildren.

The funeral will leave Knox Church at 2 p.m. tomorrow for the Masterton Cemetery.
