MEAT FROM WORKS
PAYMENT OF HANGING FEES. Following upon allegations made to the Masterton Borough Council by the Master Butchers’ Association to the effect that a large proportion of the meat consumed in the borough from the Waingawa Freezing Works did not have adequate fees paid thereon, the council has written to, Messrs. Thomas Borthwick and Sons, drawing its attention to the matter. The council was awaiting the firm’s reply. This information was given at last night’s meeting of the council by the Town Clerk, Mr. G. T. O'Hara Smith, in reply to a question by a councillor. Under the Meat Act, 1939, and as set out in the council's by-laws, 1940, the proprietor of a meat export slaughter house has to furnish a complete return of the meat sold to any persons residing in an abattoir district and to pay hanging fees on all such meat.
