A. & P. SOCIETY

MEETING IN MASTERTON LAST NIGHT SHOWGROUNDS IN DEMAND. USE BY HOME GUARD & MILITARY AUTHORITIES. The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held in the Farmers Rooms, Masterton, last night. The president, Mr R. E. Gordon Lee presided over a good attendance of members. Several apologies for absence were received. Prior to the commencement of business the president referred to the death of Messrs F. C. Stowell, E. Hale and P. L. Gully. “The late Mr Stowell was an excommittee man and his work was of great value to the Association,” said Mr Lee in paying a tribute to the services rendered by Mr Stowell. Members stood in silence as a mark of respect. It was decided to send letters of sympathy to the relatives. The secretary of the Eastern District Council, Royal Agricultural Society, wrote requesting the association to furnish show dates for 1941-1942.

The secretary was instructed to reply, advising that the next show would be held on February 17 and 18, 1942. A letter was received from the adjutant of the Masterton Home Guard applying for the use of the Showgrounds during Easter for a training camp for N.C.O’s. It was decided to grant the request, subject to satisfactory arrangements being made in connection with insurance matters’, etc.

An application was also received from the military authorities for permission to use the Showgrounds for one night during May, to enable men from the Palmerston North camp to bivouac. Permission was granted. A letter was received from the Air Force Committee thanking the Association for the use of the grounds on the occasion of the visit of the Air Force Band. Several new members were elected, in addition to several resignations being received.
