MASTERTON BRANCH. 1 PATRIOTIC ACTIVITIES. A well attended meeting of the La- ■ dies' Auxiliary of the Navy League was held yesterday afternoon, Mrs A. Caselberg presiding. Apologies for ab- . sence were received from Mesdames H. McKenzie Douglas, P. J. Borthwick, and the Misses Vallance and J. Mc- ’ Laren. Accounts amounting to £l3 14s 6d were passed for payment. It was decided to hold the annual, - meeting on Tuesday, April 8 at 2.30 sip.m. immediately after the committee I meeting. It was also decided that the' ’] report and balance sheet be printed [ I instead of typed as in past years. I A further letter was received from i I the A.N.A. Social Club, outlining the ; work that was being done for the men of the three services. It was decided to make a donation of £3 to the club. It was reported that the Putara school had 100 per cent membership in 1 the Navy League and had gained their flag. The returns had come in too late to arrange the presentation before Christmas, but it Will be made in the near future —Saturday, April 5, being suggested as a suitable date if the Wellington members could come on that day. It was reported that the White Elephant and jumble sales held in aid of the Navy-Nursing Queen fund, together with the proceeds of two bridge parties, had raised a substantial sum of money. It was stated that members of the committee were making individual efforts to raise funds and that money was now coming to hand. The question of any other effort being made by the Navy League was discussed and it was decided to hold “cake” days in the Navy-Nursing depot in Perry Street on Tuesday, March 18 and j Thursday. March 20, when the commit- | tee hopes that all Navy League meml bers will endeavour to make contribu- , tions of cakes which would be grate- , fully received. j Votes of thanks were passed to the ] following for assistance with the White Elephant and jumble sales: —Mr W. Daniells Ltd., for ( white elephants for advertising; Mrs J. Reid for providing morning tea each Friday, and the Red Cross Society for j. supplying afternoon tea each after- e noon, and all donors of goods and pro- r duce. x
After the meeting the wool ccmmittee packed 72 garments and the food committee packed 5 cases of tinned foods, to be forwarded to Wellington for shipment.
