SOCIAL GATHERING SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED. (“Times-Age" Special.) Privates C. T. Mitchell and J. Stephenage. who were on leave, were entertained at a social gathering at Hamua. The time was spent in dancing to music played by Miss P. Lawson. Mr A. Wade supplied an extra. Messrs R. Mabey and P. Davies were the M’s.C. Expressing the good wishes of those present and the hope that they would soon return. Mr J. B. Carruthers presented each soldier with a wristlet watch from the district patriotic committee, and also a parcel of comforts from the Hamua ladies' committee. Mr D. Bourke added the good wishes of the R.S.A. Supper was served and the gathering concluded with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and the National Anthem. Cricket Championship. By defeating Mangamaire by an innings and 146 runs oh Saturday the Pahiatua Cricket Club won the Bush Cricket Association's championship for the second year in succession. High School won their match against the Fire Brigade by 9 runs. The school are the runners-up in the championship.

BOWLING CLUB COMPETITION RESULTS. The following are the results of the junior championship singles tourney:— First round: Rowden beat Manser, 15/14; Brown beat Raleigh, 16/12; Bradley beat Dinnan, 27/18; Robinson beat Mountjoy, 20/14; Mcßride beaf Holford, 18/17 (after an extra head) Second round: Bradley beat Mcßride, 22/10; Robinson beat Brown. 21/11. Semi-final: Rowden beat Bradley, 24/22; Robinson, a bye. Final: F. Robinson beat A. Rowden, 18/14. Byrne Cup: ■ A Dannevirke rink retained the Byrne Cup when they defeated Christie, Payne. Fredericksen. Williams (s), 20H6, at Dannevirke. Oxley Cup: A rink comprising Smith, Farrow. Richardson. Hornblow (s) beat the Cup holders, Smith, Gregory, Cosford. Hunter (s), Pahiatua, at Pahiatua, 26/20. Club competitions: Baucke Star (junior singles): R. Holford beat F. Robinson (holder), 29/13; B. Bradley (challenger). 20/17, and lost to B. Dinnan, 14/18. R. Mountjoy beat B. Dinnan (holder), 19/10. Junior Feathers (pairs): Mcßride and. Rowden beat Astwood and Bailey (challengers). 21/18. Mcßride and Rowden beat Dinnan and Bradley (challengers), 22/17; Rowden and Bradley (holders) beat Butcher and Manser, 20/13. Dixon Cup: A rink comprising J. Ammunsen, M. Herbert, A. Fredericksen, W. Hooper (s) were defeated in a challenge game for the Dixon Cup against the holders, Terrace End. Palmerston North, last Saturday. The score was 25 z lB.

MATCH AGAINST MASTERTON. Five rinks from the Masterton Bowling Club visited the local club during the weekend. The green and weather were perfect and some good games were witnessed. Mr N. P. Williams (president) welcomed the visitors. The Masterton visitors entertained the local club with a song before play commenced.

The results were: First game, 12 heads (Masterton players mentioned first): Kershaw, Wyatt. Roberts, Hayne (s) lost to Mountjoy, Christie, W. Green, Fredericksen (s), 7/20; Russell, Hearle. Spackman, Stubbings (s) beat Manser, Preston, F. Hooper. W. Hooper (s), 19/7; Moore, Lewis, Gordon, (Finlayson (s) beat F. Green, Payne, A. Herbert, Hornblow (s), 12/9. E.P.S. INTERESTING LECTURE. The second lecture was given to the E.P.S. at the Post Office last night. A very interesting subject, "Telephones,” was prepared and delivered to the class aby Mr W. D. Ansell, whose address was supplemented with blackboard diagrams and a telephone. During the course of the lecture Mr Ansell took the mechanism of the telephone to pieces and explained the workings of each portion and part. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Ansell.
