SERIOUS CHARGE
AGAINST A LABOURER. CASE BEING HEARD IN MASTERTON. At a special sitting of the Masterton Magistrate’s Court this morning. William James Mclnnes. labourer, of High Street, Masterton, appeared on remand on a charge of having assaulted, with intent to commit rape, a girl of 16 years of age. Messrs L. J. Taylor and E. G. Eton, J.'sP., were on the Bench. Detective-Sergeant W. Kane appeared for the Police. , The accused was "not represented by counsel. Following evidence given by Dr. N. H. Prior, the girl's mother and the girl concerned the hearing was adjourned until 2.30 o'clock this afternoon. During the luncheon adjournment the accused secured the services of Mr. R. R. Burridge as counsel.
