WOMEN’S INSTITUTE

MATARAWA-DALEFIELD. SECOND BIRTHDAY PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The members of the Matarawa-Dale-field Women’s Institute held their second birthday party, in the Dr.lefleld Hall recently when a concert and dance was held. Items were given by the Drama Circle and the school children. Mrs McKenna, president of the Kahutara Women’s Institute, presented the trophies won during the year for which she was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The results were as follow: — Senior class:— Flowers: Mesdames L. Rogers I,’ O. Brazendale 2, A. Goodin 3. Arts and crafts: Mesdames S. McCarty 'l, M. J. Parker 2. Ross Gallon 3. Juniors:—Flowers: Misses J. Goodin 1, I. Zillwood 2, A. Hodder 3. Arts and crafts: Misses B. Sadler 1, I. Zillwood 2, J. Conwell and J. Goodin (equal) 3. A special prize donated by the president. Mrs Rogers, for the most consistent competitor covering both classes for the year was won by Mrs W. Neilson. Miss G. Conwell was the winner of the prize donated by the secretary. Miss J. Knowles. At supper the main attraction was the two-decker birthday cake made by Mrs Len Parker, and iced by Mr Robert Castle. Mrs Parker lit the two candles and Mrs Meyrick, being the oldest member, blew them out. The president of the Kahutara Institute cut the cake amid applause. Dancing was continued till after midnight.
