LOSSES BY LOOTING

INSURANCE COMPANIES REFUSE TO MEET CLAIMS. POSSIBILITY OF LITIGATION. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright! (Received This Day. 10.30 a.m.) LONDON. March 9. The “Sunday Express" has published an article saying that insurance companies refuse to meet claims by the victims of looting. The claims amount to several thousands sterling. The refusal is likely soon to become the subject of litigation. People taking out insurance contend that they should be protected against loss by looting, under the normal policies covering loss by burglary, theft and larceny, but the companies argue that looting is a risk resulting from enemy action and war risks and so therefore is not covered.
