CARTERTON RACES

ANNUAL MEETING AT CLAREVILLE COUNTY CUP TO SIGLOW. 'ENRICH WINS BUNNY MEMORIAL.. (Special Reporter.) The Carterton Racing Club’s annual meeting was held at Clareville on Saturday in fine weather. Although the fields were small some excellent racing was witnessed. The totalisator unfortunately was down some £2,419 on the previous year, handling £4602 10s. This drop was no doubt due to the fact that other major attractions were being held in the Wairarapa. It is understood that the Club is endeavouring to arrange another day for its next meeting, and it is expected that the new date, which will probably be in September, will prove more suitable. As was to be expected with a large number of Trentham horses competing they accounted for most of the races at the meeting. Representatives from N. Telford's stable won the two principal races of the day, the Wairarapa County Cup and Bunny Memorial with Siglow and Enrich, respectively. Parchment, from the same stable, won the Taratahi Hack Handicap. A very fine finish was witnessed in the Gladstone Hack Handicap when Beau Ceil, after leading. faltered in the straight and then came on to win from Maharajah and The Monarch. Jockey S. Anderson saluted the judge on three occasions. The Clerk of tho Course, Mr F. Clancy, suffered a heart attack and fell from his horse while carrying out his duties.
