ST. LUKE’S CHURCH LADIES’ GUILD MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of St. Luke's Ladies' Guild was held yesterday afternoon, in the Parish Hail. The Rev. Canon Sykes occupied the chair. It was decided that an electric urn be installed in the Parish Hall as soon as possible. Mrs Shedden was the winner of the wandering shilling parcel. Mrs York took the opportunity of extending good wishes to Canon and Mrs Sykes. In replying Canon Sykes said that his whole life had been one of work, and when he retired he did not quite know what he would do. He thanked Mrs York and the Guild ladies for their co-operation in church work. It was his advancing years, he said, which was making him take this step. After the general meeting friends and Guild members congregated in the. Hall to bid farewell to Mrs Geo. Robinson who is leaving Greytown shortly to take up her residence in Christchuch. Canon Sykes said that Mrs Robinson had been the church organist foi over two years and he expressed regret that she was leaving the town. On behalf of Guild and church members Mrs Robinson was asked to accept a beautiful hanging mirror. She was also presented with a shoulder spray of roses and asparagus, which had been made by Mrs E. Richards. Mrs Robinson, in replying, said she really did not want to leave Greytown as she and her family had been very happy here. She will always remember her Grey town' friends and thanked them for their gift.
Mrs Shedden sang two songs, "The Little Darnozel” and "Love’s Rhapsody.” Afternoon tea was handed round, Mesdames A. D. Burch, S. Shedden, and Geo. Burns being hostesses. The singing of the National Anthem brought an enjoyable gathering to a close. Personal Items. Mr and Mrs H. Keltie returned to Greytown yesterday after a holiday spent in Thames and Rotorua. A complimentarj' social gathering) and dance was held at Papawai on Wednesday when the guests of the evening were Sergeant Pilot N. Thompson, Corporals G. Barney and C. Mitchell and Privates E. Flood, H. Duder. H. Manihera Junr. On behalf of the Maori Queen each was presented with a Maori Tiki. The Mayoress. Mrs A. W. Horton, made the presentation. Speeches were delivered by the Mayor (Mr Horton) and Messrs H. Manihera and E. Kingi. Songs were contributed by Mesdames Apane, Rangi, Ithi, and Matenga, and Mr L. Samuels.
