; . EQUIPMENT OF MASTERTON * HOME GUARD 1 1 UNIT COMPLIMENTED. r SUCCESSFUL PARADE LAST NIGHT. 1 A parade of A. B. and C.companies ■ of the Masterton Home Guard Battalion under the new and extended ■ weekly training arrangements was held ) last night. As new premises and > grounds were available to meet the ' growing strength of the battalion, each ' company paraded at a separate building. A particularly encouraging feaI ture was the arrival of a supply of further equipment which enabled every man in C company to have lhe use of a rifle for the evening. A company paraded at the Drill Hall. Instruction was given in the Vickers Gun and later the platoons proceeded to the Masterton Park for extended order operations. B company (Emergency Precautions Company) paraded at Fagan’s Garage and received instruction followed by platoon drill and a route march. C company paraded at Mascot Garage. There were sufficient rifles for every member of this company, and good use was made of the evening in rifle exercises. Platoons of C company marched to the Catholic School gro.unds. for the use of which thanks are due to Father Moore. These grounds proved excellent for training as they are well lighted by adjacent street lamps. The officers of the Battalion state that the keenness displayed by the men augurs well for the success of the ,new i training schedules. The Unit Commander passed on to the mon a message of congratulation which he had received from Colonel Beere regarding the parade last Sunday morning at Mahunga Golf Links. Colonel Beere slated that he was particularly pleased ; with the advanced degree of efficiency ■ shown by the battalion in its field man- 1 oeuvres. ’
