BRIEF LIBERTY
TWO PRISONERS JUMP FROM LIMITED.
BOTH RECAPTURED SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TAUMARUNUI, This Day. Two prisoners, Stanley Clive Bernasconi and Ernest Arthur Tremere Johnstone, handcuffed together, jumped from the Limited at four o’clock this morning near a signal box as the train was leaving Taumarunui. The escapees. with other prisoners in charge of two warders, were going to Mount Eden. Warder McGcorge. of Paparua. jumped after them, but could not find them. The local police joined the chase and at 4.20 a.m. Warder McGcorge recaptured Johnstone, who still had the handcuffs attached to his wrist. At 5.10 a.m. Constable White caught Bernasconi near the railway station. Johnstone escaped from the National Park prison recently and was recaptured al, Raelilii.
