UNITED STATES SUBMARINE SCHOOL. —The forward torpedo room cf the submarine holds four torpedoes in racks along the sides, in addition to the torpedoes in the tubes. One-ton torpedoes are loaded by chain falls seen in the upper corners. The round ball at the top of the picture is a marker buoy, which is released to the surface to show the submarine's location in case of accident. Part of the crew sleeps in hammocks in this room.
