CARTERTON
SERIOUS ACCIDENT CARTERTON YOUTH HIT WITH STONE. (“Times-Age" Special.) A serious accident occurred yesterday to a young man named Lawrence Spooner, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. Spooner, of Rhodes Street, Carterton. Accompanied by Messrs. Ross Sutherland, Denzil Chew and W. Spooner he went to the mountains, following a small stream, from which they climbed a cliff. It appears that a stone was dislodged which in falling struck young Spooner on the side of the head above the ear and causing concussion. Mr. W. Sponer left the injured lad with the other two companions while he went for help. The two boys cut poles and by using their packs made a stretcher. Messrs Bryan Spooner.\ D. Thompson. Vaughan and friends, of; Masterton. went into the hills with 1 olankets and carried out the injured youth, taking 5$ hours in rough conn-I try, and fording the river waist deep! at times. They arrived at Mr Spooners! home at 11 o’clock at night, very fati-| gued after their strenuous journey. Dr.; W. J. C. Wells was called and the vic-! tim was later admitted to Greytown ■ Hospital. Mr and Mrs Spooner wish to thank those who assisted in the work! of bringing their son to his home. J i Personal. The funeral of the late Miss Ita : Mary, eldest daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Lipinski. Phillip Street, Carterton. was attended by a large concourse of mourners and relatives. Many beautiful wreaths were sent from sympathi- 1 sers. Father Tuchy conducted Requiem • Mass at St. Mary's Church in the ' morning. The pall bearers were Messrs ■ W. Wright, June, (cousin), W. Wright I Senr.. T. Johnson (Levin), J. Lipinski. ■ H. Hodder and C. Barnett. The funeral ' service at the graveside was conducted. by Father Tuohy. assisted by Father Connor.
