GREYTOWN
QUEEN CARNIVAL FANCY DRESS PARTY. (“Ti:nes-Age" Special.) The Parish Hall, Greytown, was crowded last evening when a children's fancy dress party was lor the Town Queen. Miss Betty Sheddon. in connection with the- Queen Carnival. The children entered into Die spirit of the gathering and all looked very happy. The Grand March was carried cut with pomp and ceremony. Mrs H. Evans acted as judge of the costumes, the winners being: Prettiest costume: "Fairy" Jalna Eurns. Most original girl: "Queen,” Margaret Maloney. Most original boy: "Saxon.” Douglas Robinson. Funniest costume: "Ladv." Norman Hay. A special prize went to Bernice Garrity and Doreen Flood. "Red Cross Nurses." The following gave items during the evening: Betty Dewhurst, recitation, yl didn’t mean it, did I?": Effie Defines and Fae Ross, Highland Fling, in costume; Douglas Robinson songs. "The Road to the Isles” and “Cherry Ripe' , Mrs Geo. Robinson played the accompaniments. A recitation was given by four girls, Alyson Robb. Irma Morrison Lena Hay. Llorna Jordan "Dutch." Sidney Beu recited "Someone." "My Railway" was well recited by Jim Farley. Ross Sugrue and Raymond Morris. A community sing was held before supper and favourites of the day wore heartily sung by all present. Several musical games wore played. Supper was served by the ladies. The pianist was Mrs H. G. Carter.
The singing of the National Anthem brought an enjoyable gathering to a close.
The Country Queen Committee was busy this morning, and judging by the quantity of goods arriving they will be able to meet all the demands of their patrons. The evening programme has been kept a secret but a real treat is in store for those who attend the Crown Theatre tonight. The Town Queen Committee advertise a dance for Saturday night in the Odd Fellows' Hall.
The position flags for the Greytown Queen Carnival were hoisted this morning on the Council Chambers. The positions of the candidates are: Maori (red flag) 1 Country (blue) . .... 2 Town (yellow) .... 3
The Town Queen Committee has arranged for a garden party to be held in the Crown Theatre if the weather should be wet. Personal Items. Miss M. Duff is spending a holiday at Palmerston North. Mr T. Connolly, president of the Greytown Bowling Club, has left to take tin appointment at Waiouru. The many friends of Mr Kelvin Thompson who was severely burned some time ago. will be pleased to know that he is now making steady progress towards recovery.
