MEETING OF MASTERTON BOROUGH COUNCIL MEMORIAL AVENUE TREES. QUESTION OF MAINTENANCE. The monthly meeting of the Masterton Borough Council was held in Masterton last night. The .Mayor. Mr T. Jordan, presided. There were also present Councillors W. White. A. D. Low W. H. Judd. W. Kemp. G. D. Wilson R. Russell H. E. Gardner. A. T. Jackson. G. W. Morice. J. Ninnes and Trevor Beetham.

The maintenance of the Memorial •Avenue at the approaches to the town was discussed it being agreed that the trees be cared for by the Park employees and that the County be approached to contribute halt the cost. The Borough Engineer. Mr C R Mabson. reported that the pump ordered for watering the Park Oval from the lake had not proved satisfactory upon test and the matter was being taken up with the supplier. In response to a request from the Trentham Camp Librarian it was decided to send books discarded from tin i borough library to the camp library. Advice was received from the Collector of Customs, granting, after re consideration an import licence fot £3l for library books to be imported i from England. ; It was decided to send a letter of api preciation to the Collector of Custom! , for reviewing the Council's represen- | tat ions. i The secretary of the New Zealand I Centennial Exhibition wrote enclosing. ' a cheque for £4O 12s sd. as refund of j 2s 4d in the £ 1 on the council's contribution of £348. "It's good news” commented Mr Jordan.
