; FIRE BRIGADE SHIELD — COMPETITION LAST NIGHT. ("Times-Age" Special.) Members of the Ekesahuna Fire Brigade competed for the. Brigade shield last evening. The competition was a ■ three-men wet event, and after an interesting display Fireman N. Parsons's team ran out the winners. The following are the results: — Fireman N. Parsons (captain). De-puty-Superintendent H. Daniell. Fireman J. Dickson. Time. 26 3-ssec. 1. Secretary S. Daniel icaptain'. Fireman Dickson. Fireman G. Clapham. 33 Treasurer G. Jesson leapt). Supt. H. Rogers. Fireman R. Fafeita. 48'ecs. 3. Fireman S. O'Regan leapt). Fireman Parsons. Fireman Fafeita, 49 2-ssecs, and Fireman H. Gyde leapt). F.reman J. Dickson and Fireman West, also competed. The Brigade's team, which is to take pare in the annual competition for the Triangular Shield at Pahiatua next month, has commenced training. The competition is between tiie Pahiatua, Woodville and Eketahuna fire brigades. Eketaliuna at present holds the trophy. This competition commenced eight years ago. and since then Eketahuna has won it on six occasions. Pahiatua and Woodville have had one win each. BOWLING CLUB COMPETITIONS. Club tournament. —Six rinks played ■ in a friendly tournament on the local ] green. 4 games of 10 heads being play- ' ed. Richardson's rink, with 3 wins, were the winners. Richardson (s), 3 wins, 1 loss: Williams, Hooper and Hornblow, 2 wins and 2 looses; Rogers. 1 win and 3 losses. Communications Unit Formed. On Monday night at a meeting the local Post Office staff decided to form a Communications Section Unit of the Emergency Precautions Scheme. The functions of the unit will be. to maintain communications in case of invasion or national disaster. It was decided that meetings and parados of the unit, which is now 15 strong, be held weekly. The Postmaster. Mr N P Williams, slated that any member of the E PS. could join the unit, provided, of course, that they attend the weekly parades so as to make themselves conversant with the activities of the unit. Ii was really necessary. Mr Williams said, to have at leas', six men in each district trained m technical line work, s-.i that communications with outside districts could be maintained as etficiently as i circumstances permitted.
