PRIVATE C. H. HUMPHRIES. PRESENTATION FROM FREEZING WORKS EMPLOYEES. A very pleasing function took place at the Waingawa Freezing Works yesterday afternoon when the employees gathered to extend a welcome to Private C. IL Humphries, of Carterton. Private Humphries, who was employed at the Waingawa works, was a member of the First. Echelon and has just been invalided back to New Zealand. having had the misfortune to suffer injuries resulting in the loss of his sight. Amongst those present at the gathering was Mr Ben Roberts. M.P. Mr D. A. Barns, on behalf of the employees extended a cordial welcome to Mr Humphries and other speakers were Mr Bambry, representing the slaughter board, and Mr George Cornick for the returned soldiers at the works. Mr Roberts spoke of the present world crisis and of the determination of democracies to preserve their liberty and freedom. He made feeling reference to the incapacity suffered by Mr Humphries which was an example of the sacrifice suffered for the defence of the right to live as free men. On behalf of the employees. Mr F Small), works managed. asked Mr Humphries to accept a well filled wallet as a token of their esteem and in doing so wished him all future happiness and success. Mr Humphries suitably acknowledged the presentation and the function terminated with the singing of "For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
