"INVITING ROBBERY”
MONEY FROM BUCHANAN HOME STOLEN. HOSPITAL BOARD TO OPEN IMPREST ACCOUNT. "Leaving money about like that is simply inviting robbery." said Mr. W. B. Martin when it was reported to yesterday’s meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board that £43 10s. the property of inmates had been stolen from the Buchanan Home, Grey town, on or about December 30. The money, the secretary reported, was held for the convenience of inmates by the sister-in-charge and on this occasion had been placed in a padlocked locker. The screws securing the padlock had been remi ved and the money taken .either on December 30 or early on December 31. After some discussion on the board's responsibilities in the matter, a motion was passed authorising the opening in Greytown of an imprest account for inmates' money, with the treasurer and Greytown matron as trustees. It was reported that the robbery was still under police investigation.
