THREAT TO MALAYA

The High Commissioner for Malaya, Sir Shenton Thomas, in a speech to the Federal Council at Kuala Lumpur said that possibly before the next meeting "a battle would have begun—which would decide our fate and lives in this country. Our duty is to stand shoulder to shoulder and face the future calmly." It was announced from Singapore yesterday, the 8.8. C. states, that further formations of bombers have been sent to Northern Malaya. It was stated on Monday last that formations of Blenheims had been sent there and it is now made known that Australian ! formations of bombers have followed. I Australian air formations consisting) of both fighters and bombers were dis- ! patched to Singapore some months ago and it was then stated that these formations were an important part of the air forces in Malaya.
