SPORTS MEETING
IN All) OF PATRIOTIC FUND SUCCESSFUL GATHERING AT MARTINBOROUGH. LIST OF PRIZE-WINNERS ("Times-Age" Special.) The Martinborough Amateur Athletic and Horse Sports Club held a very successful meeting at Martinborough on Saturday. The net profits from the meeting will be devoted to the local Patriotic Fund. The wind at times was rather unpleasant but apart from this the gathering was most enjoyable with everything going off with a swing. As expected. entries in most events were smaller than in past years, this being due to the fact that many of the usual competitors are now on active service. However, competition was keen, and spectators were provided with good sport. The attendance was satisfactory. the gate return being just short of last year.
"The Wheel of Fortune.” which was run by the Masterton Returned Soldiers to assist the club, provided the local public with a new attraction, the response being highly satisfactoy both financially and otherwise. The final I figures are not yet to hand, but will be | published when available. It is anticij pated that a fairly substantial sum will ! be available for patriotic purposes. j The following were the results of the I various events:— Horse Events. Open Turning: Jack Harris I. M.
