ROMNEY MARSH SHEEP
TRADE WITH AUSTRALIA. RAMS FROM WAIRARAPA FLOCKS. Several new Romney studs have recently been founded in Australia with importations from New Zealand and Messrs. Wright. Stephenson and Co., Ltd,, were recently instructed to select and purchase several outstanding rams to head these new flocks. They have secured three outstanding low set. well sprung, typical one-shear rams from the Waiorongomai flock of Mr. R. W. Matthews. Featherston, the .Alloa flock Messrs. J. G. and I. R. Donald. Tauherenikau. and the Cranlcigh flock of Mr. J. G. Alexander, Maxwell. These sheep, which carry similar strains of blood, are very typical specimens of New Zealand Romneys and should make a good impression in their new home. Tire rams were selected not only on account of their typical appearance. but care was taken to secure in each case a ram with a good sire's head, and an even fleece of fairly strong wool with good crimp and lustre. A further selection of high class ewes from Mr. J. E. Hewitt's well-known Mangamaire stud have also been sold by Messrs. Wright. Stephenson and Co.. Ud.. for shipment to a client in New South Wales. The .Mangamaire Romneys which were shipped across to Australia last year delighted their buyers and the agents report that this year's consignment is, in their opinion, the best yet sent overseas from this well-known flock. In addition to the high class oneshear rams mentioned above, all of which were in the three figure class, another good ram secured for a South Australian client is an outstanding four-tooth, also bred in the Alloa flock of Messrs. J. G. and J. R. Donald.
