Wellington. and Herbert Hep worth, aged 73, chemist, Palmerston North, were jointly charged that on or about January 11, at Wellington, they unlawfully used on a young woman, whose name was suppressed, an instrument with intent to procure a certain result, and also that on c.r about January 9, at ( Palmerston North, they did by an un- ; lawful act cause the death of Agnes Eva Amelia Henderson and did thereby commit manslaughter. Both accused were committed to the Supreme Court for trial. Mr J. T. Bosworth. JP. and Mr W. C>. Ashworth. J.P., wore on the bench. Mr G. C. Petersen appeared for accused Hepworth and Mr J. O'Donovan. Wellington, for the female accused. Mr M H. Oram watched proceedings on behalf of the woman mentioned in the first charge. Detective-Sergeant A. B. Meiklejohn appeared for the prosecution.
