FARMERS’ PART
SUPPORT FOR CARNIVAL
post DON OF MASTERTON A. <& P. ASSOCIATION. PROCEEDS OF NIGHT SHOW. The Masterton A. and P. Association, which in the Queen Carnival is scheduled to support the Air Force Queen was placed in a delicate position, last night, when a deputation representing the Air Force committee waited upon the executive to ask permission to lake part in the Night Show on February 17. While it was agreed to give wholehearted support t<> the Air Force candidate in oilier activities, it was found that permission had already been given the Interhouse Association to take part in the night show and to share the proceeds Since that agreement was reached the Interhouse Association had been allocated to support the Army candidate and the A. and F. Association. to support the Air Force Queen. It was decided, after prolonged discussion. that the only course open to the executive was to endorse the previous decision and allow the Artny Queen Committee to put on an Interhcuse display. All four queen committees were given permission to have stands at the night show. No canvassing would be allowed on People’s Day but by 11 votes to nine, it was decided that stands might be erected by Queen committees in positions to be decided by the Association.
Mr. J. A. Betts, for the Air .Force committee, said that it was the privilege of farmers’ organisations to carry the banner of the Royal Air Force in the Queen Carnival. He hoped that despite the Air Force Queen’s late start the farming community would, by enthusiasm and enterprise, place the Air Force at the top. Mr. J. C. D. Mackley asked the cooperation of the Association with the Bideford. Gladstone and Langdale Horse Sports Clubs, who were combining to organise a gymkhana at the showgrounds. He asked farmers to devote their contribution in the forthcoming stock drive to the Air Force Queen funds.
Mr. J. M. James assured Messrs. Betts and Mackley of the full support of the A. and P. Association in seeing that "our queen comes out on top."
It was decided to form a committee to assist the horse sports clubs with the running of the gymkhana.
