EKETAHUNA
SWIMMING SUCCESSFUL CLUB NIGHT. (“Times-Age" Special.) The Eketahuna Swimming Club conducted a highly successful club night at the baths last evening. Although the weather was on its best behaviour. the attendance of the public was rather disappointing. All the events were keenly contested and exciting finishes were the order. The programme was ably controlled by the following officials: Judges, Messrs R. Dickson, S. J. O'Regan and A. Southy; starter, Mr C. Parsons; announcer and call steward, Mr F. Goggin: diving judge. Mr W. Duffield. During the evening Mr A. Robinson, of Pahiatua. who was the runner-up in the 100yds event at the Manawatu Centre’s Championships. swam an exhibition 100yds for which he received well-merited applause.
At the conclusion of the events Mr Goggin thanked patrons for their interest in the sport and appealed for still greater support from the public. He announced that the club intended holding an afternoon meeting in the near future.

A shop day conducted by the Eketahuna Ladies’ Committee was held in the main street yesterday, and as a result the sum of £27 was realised. The appeal made by members of the committee met with a generous response, the result being that the stall was well stocked with fruit vegetables, jam, etc., all of which found ready purchasers. The proceeds of the effort will go towards making up parcels of comforts for soldiers and other most necessary objects.
CRICKET FIXTURES FOR TOMORROW. The following are the cricket fixtures to be played at Pahiatua on Saturday:—Pahiatua v Mangamaire; Fire Brigade v High School. Both matches will commence at 1.30 p.m. CARNIVAL EFFORT OBJECTIONS 'I’O .CANVASSING. The action of three ladies of a neighbouring town, which is at present conducting a Queen Carnival for the Heart to Heart Appeal. canvassing Eketahuna yesterday with raffle tickets in aid of their candidate, is being much resented by the various patriotic committees here. When it is realised that Eketahuna and district have been able to raise their quota toward?i the Dominion appeal without having] to seek outside aid. it seems rather unfair. as it was pointed out, that outside towns should ask Eketahuna to help raise their quota, especially when the local committees are finding it rather difficult to raise money io fulfil their various activities.
