BOWLING CHAMPION RINKS CONTEST. ("Times-Age" Special.) bThe following rinks have been choq to play against each other to determine the rink to represent the Carterton Bowling Club in the Wairarapa centre championship:—Smith. The quarterly meeting of Loyal Wairarapa . Past Grands’ Lodge of Odd Fellows was held in the Masterton Lodge Room last evening, P.G. Bro. J. Harris presiding. There was a fair attendance of members. Two members of Loyal Masterton Lodge were advanced to the Most Honourable Purple Degree and given the lecture pertaining to the degree. They were afterwards initiated into the lodge and accorded a hearty welcome. Correspondence was read from Wellington District Hospital Association relative to out-patients fees. The secretary’s action in forwarding the book of rules of the local lodge to the Loyal Tararua Lodge of Past j Grands. Pahiatua, was endorsed. Bro. J. F. Wallis wrote conveying! his thanks for the honour conferred in j electing him a life member of the | lodge Matters that will be brought forward at the annual District Conference to; be held at Levin on Saturday, March ‘ 1. were discussed.

Accounts amounting to » £2 13s 5d were passed. The next meeting will be held in July at Carterton when important matters affecting the lodge will be discussed.

PATRIOTIC WORK CARTERTON COMMITTEE MEETS A meeting of the Carterton Patriotic Committee was held on Wednesday. The Mayor. Mr D. L. Taverner, presided and there were also present Messrs L. 11. Smart. A. G. Rabbits. A. Callistcr, Jas. Fisher. A. E. Hall. Loftus. C. Chennells, Geo Brown. C. Jensen. J. Steel. L. J. Fairbrother. J. A. B. Lawrence, Misses C. Berrill and 0. Wolters and Mesdames R. J. Grimmer, H. E. Ordish. Loftus. E. T. Beaven and L. J. Fairbrother. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs F. Court, W. Martin, B. Roberts, M.P.. and Mrs N. Boyne. An offer was received from Mr Dar- i ragh to give a section of land to be I raffled in aid of the patriotic appeal. The offer was received and the donor thanked for his generosity. It was decided that the secretary of the Masterton Patriotic Committee be approached with a view to some amicable arrangement as to defined boundaries in Zone B for canvassing by the Masterton district and Carterton district committees.

A ladies’ committee is to be organised in the Belvedere district to further the £1.000.000 appeal.

It was decided that all residents in outlying districts be circularised in connection with the appeal, the following to form a sub-committee to make the necessary arrangements:— Messrs E. T. Beuven. L. IL Smart, B. Chennells. J. Steel, J. A. B. Lawrence, A. T. Murray.
