ROYAL SYMPATHY

THE DEATH OF GENERAL METAXAS. EXCHANGE OF MESSAGES. i British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, February 3. The following message was sent by the King to the King of the Hellenes: "I learnt with deep distress of the death of General Metaxas. Greece has lost one of her greatest sons, who will be mourned in my country as sincerely as in Greece. I offer you my heartfelt sympathy in the cruel blow which has fallen so suddenly on the Greek people."

A reply which has been received reads: "Your sympathy on the great loss I have suffered touches me very deeply. It is a cruel blow which has fallen so suddenly on my people and myself. The sincere participation of your country in our distress encourages us in our determination to carry on with the same spirit until the victorious conclusion of the war."
