Two children were burnt to death and a third received • serious burns when a disused fowlhouse in which they were playing was destroyed by fire at Dunsandel today. The two burnt to death were: Gordon James Clark, aged three. Douglas Percival Clark, aged five. John Clark, aged eight, was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital, where his condition was described as fairly serious. The tragedy occurred about 5.30 p.m. The mother of the children, Mrs A. Clark, had just left for Dunsandel. and their father was working on a farm some distance away. It is believed that one of the children lit a match, setting light to five or six bags of straw which were lying in the fowlhouse. The eldest child ran into the road and told a neighbour, Mr J. Jones, that his brothers were burnt, but by the time Mr Jones reached the scene the roof of the fowlhouse had fallen in and he could do nothing.
