CARTERTON
BOY SCOUTS CARD PARTY LAST NIGHT. ("Times-Age" Special. I The weekly card party of the Boy Scout Committee was held in the Band Room last evening, when there was a large attendance. The prizes were won by Mrs Lenihan <1) and Mrs. O'Keefe <2.», in the ladies’ section, and Mrs Patterson (1) and Mrs Mohe (2) in the men’s division. DR. & MRS R. N. CAMPBELL FAREWELL GATHERING. Between 40 and 50 residents of Carterton gathered at the Marquis of Normanby Hotel last evening to bid farewell to Dr. and Mrs R. N. Campbell, who will leave Carterton tomorrow for Wellington. Dr. Campbell will go into camp at Fort Dorset for the duration of the war. and Mrs Campbell and her family will take up their residence in Wellington.
The hostesses were Mesdamos R. Barrett. A. T. Murray. IL T. Forbes A F. Stubbs. J. V. Gustofsen and Sister McKenzie.
Mr J. V. Gustofson referred to the departure of their guests and said that till were sorry the Doctor and his wife were leaving Carterton. where they had resided for some years and had made many friends. Military duties called Dr. Campbell away and they all wished him good luck in' his new duties at Fort Dorset. On behalf of friends he had pleasure in asking Dr. Campbell to accept a rug for himself and for Mrs Campbell a gold bangle, as a slight token of the esteem in which they were held.
The health of Dr. and Mrs Campbell was drunk after the singing of "For They Are Jolly Good Fellows." Dr. Campbell on behalf of Nirs Campbell and himself, feelingly returned his thanks. BUILDING SOCIETY APPROPRIATION GOES TO RAETIHI. — The Wairarapa Terminating Building Society held a meeting last evening Mr L. H. Smart, chairman of Directors presiding.
An appropriation by ballot for £6OO went to C. E. Lord. Raetihi. At the next meeting in February two appropriations will be made. £6OO by ballot and £l2OO by sale,
