January 27. | The cunning with which the Nazis j are attempting to create a plausibly' respectacle facade for the German ex-I ploitation of Europe is revealed in j Press reports that suggestions have : been made to the Swiss Government that the present building of the International Labour Office in Geneva should be handed over as headquarters for European collaboration on labour and social affairs. The Labour Office, which has always been acclaimed as the most successful organ of the League of Nations, and which is still functioning in Montreal., has been bitterly attacked by the Nazis; ever since the time the Labour Min-j istcr. Dr. Ley. made a single tactless and unfortunate appearance at the, Geneva International Conference, ■ where he uttered surprisingly insulting remarks about the South American republics. » The effrontery, therefore, of the Nazi I scheme to supe v sede the office by one of their own constitution —it is even reported that they are now publishing from Geneva a magazine on similar ' lines to •■1.L.0." and are sending German ex-officials to gain support in other European countries, particularly the Balkans —is not likely to deceive J free opinion anywhere, and certainly j not in the countries outside Europe, i nor to influence those circles which . realise that the machinery of the 1.L.0.
