SOLDIERS ENTERTAINED
GATHERING AT GLADSTONE. TWO PRESENTATI ONS. ("Times-Age" Special. 1 A dance was held last Friday al the Gladstone Hall in honour of the local soldiers and was largely attended. The settlers of the Te Whiti, Gladstone and Longbush districts again combined to make the event an outstanding success. The guests of the evening were Pies G. S. Cooper and J. C. Bartholomew. The third member of the local contingent. Pte W. Ranking, was unavoidably absent in the South Island, At a suitable interval presentations to the two soldiers were made on behalf of the .settlers of the district by Mr Duncan McGregor, who, in a few well chosen remarks, wished them good luck and a safe return. A vote of thanks to the ladies’ committee, which had organised the catering during the pas! year, was carried by acclamation. Mention was made by the actingchairman. .Mr J Mitchell, of an annua! general meeting of all interested from the three districts which was to be held to pass accounts and discuss plans for future social gatherings. Mr Mitchell said that he hoped to see a good attendance of members The meeting would be held early m February. After the two - had replied briefly, dancing was continued S.i; - per was served m the supper roam which was decorated with flower Music was provided by Mrs Ashtonb orchestra, which contributed considerably t<* the success of 'die gutherini’. which was brought to a close with the singing of "Auld l.ang Sy: e "
