TRANSFER TO AUSTRALIA — PROJECT TO BE DISCUSSED IN LONDON, DURING FEDERAL PREMIER’S VISIT. 'By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyrightt SYDNEY. January 27. While in Britain the Prime Minister, Mr Menzies, will discuss with the British Government the possibility of transferring entire war time industries from Britain to Australia. Announcing this today, the ActingPrime Minister, Mr Fadden. said that some of Britain's essential war time industries would be able to give better service to the Empire here than in Britain. The production could continue I without interruption by air raids. Australia ,he added, needed skillj ed workmen and machinery to help i develop the industries already estab- : lished or contemplated, notably the shipbuilding industry. CANADA’S PART START ALREADY MADE. NEW YORK. January 27. The Canadian Minister of Munitions (Mr Howe) who returned to America aboard the British battleship King George V.. told the "New York Times" that a start had alrerady been made to j transfer many British industries to! Canada. Some British manufacturers! who had been bombed out of business' had decided to reopen in Canada, while! others preferred to establish branches) in the Dominions and produce on both; sides of the Atlantic. Tliis course was being followed, he) said with an eye to the future rather) than because of present pressure. Even! key men and machinery were being! transferred, Britain, he added had developed an! efficient technique for quick salvageand repair. "1 saw factories the wheels! i f which looked as though they would! never work again but which were re-! suscitated in a very short time. Even) such bombing as at Coventry has failed; to cripple though undoubtedly it has delayed production for a short time" !
