Where defects have arisen these have received attention, and the general standard of all these premises is being maintained in a satisfactory condition. Buildings, sanitary, plumbing and draining: The usual inspection and testing of all new work has been carried out. and the standard of workmanship has been good. A cleanup of the borough has been effected, and it is worthy of mention, the improved conditions brought about by the combined efforts of most of the residents The report was adopted. ATHLETIC CLUB TWO PRESENTATIONS. On Saturday evening last a number of members and supporters of the Eketahuna Amateur Athletic Club met in the Fire Station to bid farewell to its popular secretary. Mr W. J. Henderson. who has transferred to Woodville. Opportunity was taken during the evening to honour the club's New Zealand champion. Mr W. Russell. The president. .Mr S. Daniel, presided and an enjoyable time was spent.

The following toast list was honoured: The King; "Kindred Sports” (proposed by Mr S. J. O'Regan and replied to by Messrs R. Dickson (golf), R. Payne (bowls) and C. H. Parsons (swimming); “Eketahuna Borough Council" '(.Mr R. Payne—Mr B. Dinnan); "Eketahuna Athletic Club" • (Mr K Marenzi —Mr C. Hausmann); "Our Helpers” (Mr L. Russell—Mr R. Dickson >.

The presentation to Mr W. Russell, the New Zealand hop, step and jump champion, was made by Mr W. J. Henderson. In asking Mr Russell to accept a gold-mounted fountain pen, Mr Henderson congratulated him on his meritorious achievements both at the National Championships and also at the Wellington Provincial Championship meeting. .Al the National meeting, continued Mr Henderson. Mr Russell had won the hop, step and jump and had also filled second place in th.e long jump event.. He had also the distinction of being the only athlete ever to win both the senior and junior titles at. the Wellington Provincial Championships. This honour he accomplished two years in succession in the hop. step and jump event. His winning effort in the provincial championships of over 4(i feel was by far the greatest distance attained by a junior in New Zealand. Mr Russell had only one fault, said the speaker, and that was his modesty. Perhaps he was unfortunate in not being a member of a larger club who would have seen to it that his successes would have received much publicity. He had been fortunate, however, in having Mr Claude Hausman ns his coach. Mr Henderson concluded by asking Mr Ru/.-ell to accept the gift as a small token of the club’s appreciation for tlie honour he had given it by providing Nev l . - Zealand champion in its ranks The toast of .Mr Russell was cnthu.;:; .-rurally honoured, after which he bnvily thimncd the club for the gift : tilt- good wishes He said that had ; it not have been f.r Mi Hausmann’s! interest in him, he doubted if he could ! t-ver have gained any success al all. j The toast of The Coach” was pro- > p- : •"! by Mr C Parsons, who said the I chib was indeed j. >r. unit ~<• .n slaving al meinbvr of Mr Hausmann’s erlibre | His heart was m athletic.- and he w..s j always ready to give the benetlt of | hr t xpericncc to any young fellow) In reply.
