OTHER PEOPLE’S IDEAS
PETROL CONSERVATION (To the Editor.) Sir.—ln those days of s<> many warnings by the Transport Department to conserve petrol to the utmost and the absolute restrictions to farmers and necessary industries, it seems a great pity that the Department’s warnings arc not carried into effect. It would be interesting to know how it is that youths in gangs of four and five are allowed all Saturday afternoons, in fact almost any night of the week, to career up and down the streets and out into the district for no good purpose whatsoever. but at the same time are allowed to waste petrol. Of course it is understood the owners of these ears are entitled to their petrol, but when it Carnes to the wasting of it. it is an on - tirdy different matter. Surely it is time the Department woke up to the fact of this unnecessary waste. We are told every day of the week there is a war on and that we must do our part by extra production and consewnlion of necessary materials. Petrol evic ently is not it necessary article to be conserved.- I am. etc..
