PARADE LAST EVENING

1 MARCH TO MEMORIAL PARK. MANY NEW ENROLMENTS. A highly successful parade of the Home Guard aud Emengeney Precaution Scheme companies was held last night under the command of the Masterton Unit Commander. Lieut. A. L. Hibbs. D.C.M. Over 200 men paraded and many new enrolments were made. Headed by the pipes and drums of St. Andrew's Pipe Band the two companies. under the command of Lieut. Raymond Lee and Lieut. A. O. Jones respectively. marched in column of route to the Memorial Park where platoon, company and battalion drill was carried out. Even in the short time available before darkness set in a considerable improvement was noticeable in the manner in which the various movements were executed and the unit commander expressed himself as well pleased with the evening's work, and on the "Dismiss" called for three cheers for the band. The next parade will be held on Thursday. January 23. at 7.0 p.m. The N.C.O.'s class for instruction will be held on 'Tuesday. January 21, at 7.0 p.m.

The unit commander wishes it Inentioned that in the event of a member of the unit having to absent himself front parade for urgent reasons, leave should be applied for from the member's platoon or company commander. Leave will be freely granted for urgent reasons, but in order to plan the work ahead it is necessary to have some idea of the numbers likely to be parading. The Home Guard Movement is gath-’ ering momentum throughout the Wairarapa. Last night more than 125 members of the Home Guard and 83 members of the Emergency Precautions Scheme paraded.

Four unit commanders from the Wairar.ipa (Area’ 7R) will enter camp at Foxton tomorrow for a training course. They are: A. L. Hibbs i Masterton). F. S Hayes i Featherston), F. B. Wright tMartinborough). and H. G. Carter (GreytownL The offer of training was made to these men because, at the time, they were m command of the largest units in the district. In the Masterton district a sub-unit has been formed al Bideford and a small unit H likely to appear at To Whiti. Arrangements lire under way at Mauriceville and it is expected that units will shortly be established in the coastal districts There are now units at Carterton. Greytown. Featherston. Martinboroijgh (with a strong sub-unit nt PirinoaL Ekctahuna (sub-unit at Alfredson). Akitio and Pahiatua. Subunits are beginning to appear in many ether country districts.
