WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
MEETING AT GLADSTONE COMPETITION WINNERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Gladstone Women’s Institute took the form of a special children’s afternoon. Mrs Joblin occupied the chair. After the business had been completed, recitations were given by members' children who belong to the correspondence school. A special competition was held for them, the making of floral saucer ladies, and resulted in Jean Mills being first and Audrey Wellwood second. Later the children were entertained at a game of musical gifts.
The competition among members for a Christmas gift was won by Mrs Mills, Miss Rangi Haeata receiving a special prize. The best bloom competition was won by Mrs Joblin with a beautiful iris.
During the afternoon a presentation was made to Miss Nola Wveth in vicw
of her approaching marriage. .A sale <>f very varied and original Christmas gifts made by members of the Upper Plain Women’s Institute met with a ready response. The afternoon tea was in charge of Mrs Parker and helpers.
