RAIDS ON ENEMY BASES IN LIBYA R.A/F. HARD AT WORK. MUCH DAMAGE AT TRIPOLI & TOBRUK ‘British Official Wireh-ss.i (Received This Day, 1.0 p.m.i RUGBY. .January 7. Further R A F. raids on Tobruk and Tripoli, from which all British planes returned safely, are recorded m a R.A.F. Middle East communique issued on Tuesday night, which says:—"Tripoli was again raided heavily by R.A.F bombers on the night of January t>. Several tons of bombs were dropped among motor-vessels in the centre of the harbour, causing a series of exlosions and clouds of smoke. A direct hit was registered amidships on a large motor-vessel, followed by explosions. Several smaller cargo ships probably were hit and fires were caused among the Customs buildings and wharves. A power station was bombarded and much damage was caused. "A further raid was made on Tobruk by our heavy bombers and widespread fires were caused, which were visible thirty miles away, among barracKS. stores sheds and motor-transport concentrations. Our aircraft returnee! without loss to their base'-."
