DESTROYERS BOMBARD
VALONA NO ENEMY WARSHIPS SIGHTED. BASF. RAIDED AGAIN BY R A.F Allied warships have again sailed up the Adriatic, the 8.8. C. reports. It is announced from Athens that a squadron of Greek destroyers fired 80 rounds at Valona. the chief Italian base in Albania, without sighting a single enemy warship. The R.A.F. has made another big air raid on X’alona. The attack was carried out in bad weather. Bombs were dropped on buildings, warehouses and harbour objectives. Several fires were burning fiercely when the bombers turned away. The planes were met by fierce anti-aircraft lire and enemy fighters tried to interfere. One was driven off with smoke coming from its engine and another was seen to dive towards the sea after being hit. One British, machine failed to return. LAND FIGHTING ITALIANS FORCED BACK.
