CARTERTON
SOLDIER HONOURED PRESENTATION TO MR K. BAIN. ("Times-Age" Special.) On the eve of his departure for camp < Trentham, Mr K. Bain, of the staff of Messrs Hill and Hughes, motor garage, was the recipient of a present from the firm and employees. In making the Mr S. Hill referred to the excellent personal qualities of Mr Bain and his ability as a mechanic. On behalf of the firm and his fellow workers he asked Mr Bain to accept a fountain pen and eversharp pencil. They wished him good health and good luck and a safe return home again. Mr Bain suitably thanked Mr Hill for his kindly remarks and for the gift. Mr Bain left for camp today. BOWLING RINK CONTESTS. On a very keen green and in excessive heat on Saturday four rinks of the Carterton Bowling Club had a pleasant afternoon's play. Afternoon tea wasj provided by Mesdamcs Bain and Harp ' and presided over by Mrs M. E. Eagle ! and her daughter, who were accorded! a hearty vote of thanks. The games resulted as follow:— E. Clark. Callender (s> beat Rayner, Spooner, Newbould. W. ' Hart (s), 29/19; Booth. Hawker. J. i Harp. Tucker <s) beat Daysh, W. Ste-i ven, G. Hart, Hughan <s). 22/14. A rink of Greytown bowlers will play the holders. Carterton, on the Carterton green tonight for the champion fours. Personal Items. Dr. and Mrs W. J. C. Wells have left on holiday and will be absent until January 31. During Dr. Wells's absence Dr. R. N. Campbell will carry on his practice. Mr and Mrs W. A. Hart and Mrs Horden. who spent the Christmas and New Year holidays in Christchurch, have returned home. Mrs J. Duthie and her daughter, Jean, of Rotorua, who are at present [ spending a holiday in the Wairarapa. ! will return to their home on Wednes- j day. Miss Shcddon. of Dunedin, is spending a holiday with Mrs Taverner. Park Road. Carterton. Miss Kathleen Thornton, of King's j College. Auckland, has been the guest of Mrs N. Armstrong, Carterton. Mrs H. Swan, who has z been staying with her mother, Mrs C. Fairbrother, Dalefield. has returned to Te Awamutu. Mrs Harris and family, of Feilding., who has been the guests of Mrs Phil- j potts. Park Road. Carterton. returned . home yesterday. Mr L. Matthews and his daughter' Joyce, of Lower Hutt, are visiting j Waihekake.
Mrs Wilson, of Danncvirke. who has been staying with Mrs W. Haydon, of Holloway Street, returned home today.
