FEATHERSTON
VITAL STATISTICS FIGURES FOR PAST YEAR. ("Times-Age" Special.) During December 1 birth and 1 death were registered in Featherston. The figures for 1940 are: Births 59 <5O in 1939). marriages 8 (12). deaths 18 (18). Rainfall. The rainfall in December was 4.78 inches, rain having fallen on thirteen days. The maximum was 1.14 in. on December 6. There was rain on 186 days in 1940, the total fall being 57.25 inches. Swimming Club Ball. The Featherston Amateur Swimming Club held its annual ball in the Anzac Hall on Wednesday night. The music was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra and Mr W. McNamara capably carried out the duties of M.C. There was a very large attendance, visitors coming from all parts of the Wairarapa. The supper arrangements were in the hands of the committee, the members of; which are to lie congratulated on the manner in which they carried out their duties. Personal Items.
Constable and Mrs A. McLeod have received cabled greetings from their son, Lieut. R. M. McLeod, of the Black Watch Highlanders, who is now in Iceland.
Miss M. Rolls. Christchurch, is visiting her father. Mr H Rolls, for the holidays. Mr and Mrs A. S. Kilsby will leave on Friday for a holiday which is to be spent in Taranaki
Miss Joyce Hatton left yesterday on a visit to Auckland. Mr G. Bowring, Blenheim, is visiting his sister. Mrs F. A. O’Neale. Councillor R. F. Watson has been drawn in the ballot and will leave for camp on Monday. .Mr and Mrs W. King and family. Castlepoint, have been the guests of Mr and Mrs Lawson.
