NEW YEAR'S EVE DANCE

AN ENJOYABLE GATHERING. ("Tlmes-AgC Special, i The New Year’s Eve dance held by the Fire Brigade in the Odd Fellow’s Hall proved most enjoyable, and as a result the local patriotic funds will benefit considerably. Music for the dancing was supplied by Miss M. Smith. Messrs. K. Marenzi and. L. Liardet. Supper was served by the ladies. At midnight those present fare.welled the old year with the singing of Auld Lang Syne, and greeted the new year with cheers. Mr. H. Rogers was M.C. A competition conducted in connection with the dance was won by Mr J. A. Taylor. A competition was also finalised on behalf of the Athletic Club, and the winner oi this was Mr. F. Oliver. GOLDEN WEDDING CELEBRATED BY MR & MRS WRIGHT. Mr. and .Mrs. A. 11. Wright, High Street. Parkville, Eketahuna. celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage on Monday. The happy oe-

casion was duly honoured by a party on Monday evening, those present including members of the family and a few intimate friend'- A short toast list was honoured. Mr. and Mrs. Wright were married at Woburn, North Canterbury, on December 30, 1890, the Rev, R Tout officiating at the service. Mr. Wright is the third son of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. Wright, of Ashley. North Canterbury, and Mrs. Wright is a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs Daniel Banks, of Woburn. After their marriage Mr ami Mrs. Wright came to Eketahuna and for a number of years. Mr Wright carried on his trade as a blacksmith on his own account. Forty years ago Mr. and Mrs Wright removed to Alva where they engaged in farming until nearly two years ago, when they returned to Eketahuna to enjoy a wellearned retirement.
