TWO KILLED

ACCIDENT AT PARKVALE WIRE FOULS POWER LINE. TWO OTHER MEN INJURED. i"Times-Age" Special.) The victims of the farm fatality at Parkvale on Tuesday afternoon when two men were killed were Bertie W. Renall. aged about 35. and Edwin James, aged about 42. both well-known and highly respected farmers of the district. Two others, .Messrs J H. C Proctor and John Rayner, received burns and were taken to their homes. The accident occurred during slacking operations on the property of Mr Ernest Rayner. Parkvale.

It appears that the men concerned with others, were slacking hay by means of a stacker in the vicinity of a power line crossing the paddock. They were fixing the stacker and had fastened the guy wire to a willow tree and another support. Before making the wire fast the four men were pulling on it to make it taut. While the was being done the guy wire came in contact with an 11.000-volt wire, the result being that two men were killed instantly and two others received bad shocks.

Dr. R. N. Campbell was called and speedily reached the scene of the accident. The two injured men were taken to their homes and are reported to be improving.

An inquest was opened at Parkvalc yesterday before Mr E. G. Eaton. District Coroner, at the residences of the two victims, when evidence of identification was taken. The inquest was adjourned sine die.

Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved wives and families by a large circle of relatives and friends. The fatality has cast a gloom over the whole district. The funerals of the victims took place this afternoon and was followed by members of the Druids' Lodge, of which Order both were members. A service was held al St. Mark's Anglican Church, after which the remains were interred at the Clareville Cemetery.
