IN THE WESTERN DESERT
MOPPING UP OPERATIONS. WORK OF CAPTAIN H. PARATA. Describing the “mopping up” operations in the Western Desert, a communique from the N.Z.E.F. war correspondent in the Middle East, reported in yesterday’s “Times-Age,” stated that Captain H. Parata, Infantry Brigade transport officer, who guided the column of transport engaged in the operations, “as if it were a column of shrips,” was at the head of a convoy with Major J. Burroughs. Captain Parata, who has a brother in Masterton, Mr R. Parata, is a cousin of Mrs K. Te Tau, Gordon Street. Captain Parata, who came from Dunedin, is the son of Mrs M. Parata and the late Canon Parata, who was a chaplain in the last war. Mrs M. Parata was a visitor to Masterton some months ago in connection with the Church of England Bible Class movement.
