FLAGSHIP “BOMBED”

CHRISTMAS PROJECTILE ON QUARTERDECK. (By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright) LONDON, December 26. A correspondent aboard Admiral Sir Andrew Cunningham’s flagship in the Mediterranean describes how an aeroplane flew over the ship on Christmas morning and dropped a projectile “fair and square on the quarterdeck.” But the plane belonged to the Fleet Air Arm, and instead of high explosive the pilot dropped a net stocking full of fruit and nuts. Attached was a card reading “A Merry Christmas and may you be unshadowed during the New Year.”
