MANAWATU
DYNASTY SUCCESSFUL,
SPRINT TO WHITE RAJAH. ißy Telegraph—Press Associationj PALMERSTON N.. December 26. Small fields of moderate class and improved going provided very tricky problems for punters on the second day of the Manawatu meeting and there were substantial defeats of the favourites. The principal race, the Louisson Memorial Handicap, was won by Dynasty and White Rajah took the sprint. Apprentice riders monopolised the saddle today with so many of the leading horsemen away at Auckland and J. Williamson rode four winners. There was a very large holiday crowd and the totalisator returns showed an increase on Boxing Day last year. The figures were £49,088 10s, against £44,088, an increase of £5,000 10s. The total' for the two days is £80,053, against £76,263. The going was in excellent order and fast and the weather overcast but fine and mild. White Rajah won all the way in the Awapuni Handicap. Red Cat was with him to the turn and then faded. Amigo and Black Thread drew up but the fast pace and the weight told on them and White Rajah drew away for a decisive' win, Harina running along the fence to take second from Amigo. Black Thread was a poor fourth. The apprentices’ race was won very easily by Cheerful Lady. She' hit the front from the start and. drawing clear, the farther they went the bigger her margin became. The stable of A. Jenkins won a double when Counter won the Kelvin Handicap. As was the case with Cheerful Lady, Counter led all the way and, judiciously saved in the running by Midwood, he sprinted away from Foxiana and Gold Bridge in the straight, both having followed him throughout.
