N.S.W. SHIPYARDS
LEASE SOUGHT BY BRITISH FIRM. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) SYDNEY, December 25. Following a Press disclosure that a shipbuilding flrm had ofl'ered to lease Walsh Island (off Newcastle. N.S.W.), for shipbuilding, which was formerly carried on there, the Premier Mr Mair, has now announced that such an offer has been received from Hadfields, Ltd., who require the New South Wales Government to spend £lOO,OOO in putting the yards in order. Mr Mair said the offer has been passed on to the Minister of the Navy, Mr Hughes, who will place it before the Federal Cabinet.
