EAST SCHOOL
ENJOYABLE CHRISTMAS PARTY. The pupils of Masterton East School were entertained at a very jolly Christmas party by the East School Association. The guests of honour included the Headmaster, Mr Coddington, and Mrs Coddington, Mr J. Robertson, M.P., and Mrs Robertson, and Mr and Mrs G. Selby. The schoolroom had been attractively decorated for the occasion by the children and was gay with paper chains of every variety. Round the walls were appropriate Christmas pictures, painted by the children and at one end of the long room stood a tall Christmas tree, given by Mr J. Hynes. This was gracefully festooned with silver tinsel and hung with attractive gifts. The evening opened with the singing of the National Anthem. This was followed by a grand march, which showed the children’s pretty and original fancy dresses to advantage. After an hour's folk dancing, Father Christmas appeared and gave each child a gift from the Christmas tree. Supper was served by the mothers, and then the small guests departed tired but happy.
