JAPANESE DEFEAT
HEAVY LOSS OF MATERIAL IN COASTAL LANDING ATTEMPT. CHINESE PROGRESS TOWARDS ICHANG. The Moscow radio reports, the 8.8. C. states, that in a defeat inflicted on the Japanese, the Chinese have taken 12 pieces of artillery, 136 machine-guns and over 1,000 rifles. The Japanese attempted to land on the eastern coast of Central China, but the attempt was frustrated. In the Yangtse area, the Chinese are making steady progress towards Ichang.
