Hospital Entrance Sealed. At a meeting of the Wairarapa Hospital Board held in Masterton today satisfaction was expressed with the job made by the Masterton County Council of the priming, in preparation for the tar sealing of the main road into the Masterton Hospital grounds.

Body Found in Harbour. Floating upright in Wellington Harbour, the body of a man subsequently identified by the police as Michael Murphy, Wellington, was seen about 2 p.m. on Saturday by two fishermen. The body was recovered by the Petone police at about 6 p.m. The body appeared to have been in the water for not more than 24 hours. Headteachers Resign.

A total of 127 years of service to education has been given by four head teachers whose resignations on their retirement have been received by the Hawke’s Bay Education Board. They are Mr. E. Bissell, of Mahora School, Hastings, 48 years; Miss E. M. Burns, Napier Central, 25 years- Miss W. Griffiths, Twyford, 32 years: and Mrs. L. Absolom, Wallingford, 22 years. Patriotic Appeal.

In connection with the Dominion £1,000,000 patriotic appeal the Wellington provincial figures (£55,340) are made up as follows: London relief, £16,665; Wellington province general purposes (including the Wellington metropolitan area, but excluding Palmerston North-Kairanga, Wanganui, and Wairarapa), £10,340; Palmerston North-Kairanga, £13,000; Wairarapa, £10,100; Wanganui, £5234. Teachers in Home Guard.

A request for advice about the position of teachers desiring to join the Home Guard was received by the Auckland Education Board from one of its head teachers. He said that duties of the Home Guard might clash with those of teachers and therefore asked the board’s approval before joining the guard. The chairman, Mr. W. J. Campbell, said the board would consider the question when it rose. Women and the War.

The patriotic efforts of New Zealand women in the war and the many personal sacrifices they had made in assisting to provide comforts and general facilities for the men of the N.Z.E.F. received praise during the hearing of a deputation by the Minister of Internal Affairs. Mr. Parry, on Saturday. The opinion was expressed that, apart from their energies in work for the soldiers overseas and the men going into camp for training, the women of the Dominion had made the greatest sacrifice of all in the community in parting with their men for war service.

College Facilities. When referring to the fact that Wairarapa College was the only school in New Zealand which came up to the requirements asked for in connection with the preliminary steps taken by the college for the manufacture of munitions, the Acting-Principal, Mr G. W. Morice, speaking at the college break-up ceremony, pointed out that that was the position three weeks previously, when a letter was received from the Superintendent of Technical Education to that effect. It was possible that since then other schools had fulfilled the requirements demanded.
