A naval communique announced: “His Majesty's Canadian ship Saguenay (destroyer) was damaged by a torpedo while engaging an enemy submarine in ■' the eastern Atlantic. Twenty-one men are missing and are presumed to have been killed in the action and 18 ratings were wounded. “The Saguenay has reached port and is at present being repaired.” It is learned unofficially that the Saguenay attacked the submarine when the latter attempted to attack a fleet of merchantmen under the destroyer’s care.
